Accessing the course materials
If you have bought my IELTS Course programme, you get all the materials and access to me for general questions in the IELTS Course Facebook Group.
If you have bought my IELTS Course and Membership programme, you get all the materials, access to me for general questions in the IELTS Membership Facebook Group as well as individual writing feedback on both Task 1 and Task 2 questions in the course.
How to follow the course materials
How you follow the course and in which order you study Task 1 or Task 2 is your decision.
Both tasks are equally as challenging but in different ways.
You need to remember that Task 2 requires more language and ideas input from you, the writer.
Typically, you need to write at least 250 words within 40 minutes.
Task 1 requires language rather than ideas. This means reporting what you see in about 180 words and within 20 minutes.
My advice would be this:
If you are a native speaker, you are likely to have enough language but may lack the academic skills needed for reading and reporting information, so focus on understanding and selecting data and writing a Task 1 report in a suitable format before moving on to Task 2.
If language is a weakness, then start with Task 2.
This will give you guidance on the language that you should study and develop over the course of your IELTS preparation, and a plan with which you can continue even when studying the Task 1 course.
You can, of course, focus on Task 1, on one day, and then Task 2, the next day.
I also like to think that ‘little’ and ‘often’ is a better preparation method than a heavy preparation session followed by a long gap.
Always follow the course completely and do the activities and don’t just select only the aspects that are interesting or which you think are your only weaknesses.
This is not effective preparation.
I have designed the course so that you can get the maximum benefits from the advice and follow up activities.
How to get feedback on your writing
As you get nearer your exam, you can focus more with longer course sessions.
If you have bought the IELTS Membership option then at the end of each unit, before the Sample Essay section, there are sample essay questions that you can respond to.
You can get feedback on your writing using these questions only.
It is important to treat this section seriously, as if you were in the exam.
So
- Don’t google for an answer
- Do read the questions carefully
- Do read the data carefully as well
- Do make notes and plan your ideas/draft
- Use paper or a computer but don’t use a dictionary or computer spellchecker
- Make sure you write enough words
- Do proofread your work
- Do time yourself ( 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 mins for Task 2) and then stop
- And finally, don’t email me but submit your text or photo to the IELTS Membership Facebook Group for your feedback
I will respond to your report or essay within a reasonable time and will give either written or verbal feedback that will help you move forward, quickly. 🙂
In Conclusion
I am adding new units to my writing course and developing other courses for IELTS too.
I have thought carefully about the skills that IELTS students need to develop and in what order the important skills should be practiced.
If you follow my advice here, and throughout the course units, I am sure that you will benefit and your IELTS performance will improve.
